Low impact. High energy.

Knees can't take running anymore?

Former runners. HIIT class survivors. Anyone whose joints filed a complaint. You don't have to give up hard cardio, you just have to take the pounding out of it. That's exactly what a bike does.

An instructor in a black top and patterned leggings leading a CycleBar Ashburn class from the front bike.
The mechanics

All the cardio, none of the pounding

Running loads your knees with impact on every stride. On a bike, your feet never leave the pedals, so there's no impact to absorb. You control the resistance, you control the pace, and the pedal stroke moves your knees through a smooth, supported range of motion.

That's why cycling is one of the most common recommendations for people moving on from running. You can still empty the tank. Your joints just don't pay the toll.

Not medical advice. If a doctor or physical therapist is guiding your recovery, follow their plan and ask them about indoor cycling.

You set the dial

Your resistance, your call

Every rider controls their own bike. The instructor calls the ride; how heavy you go is always up to you.

We set you up first

Arrive 15 minutes early and we'll fit your bike to your body, seat height included, which matters more for your knees than anything else in the room.

Sit or stand, always optional

Every out-of-saddle move has an in-saddle version. Nobody's watching your choices in a dark room anyway.

I just went at my own pace while others kept up with the instructor, and that was totally fine.
